Re: The Four Seasons

Dear Heather, I neglected to look at the forum lately and didn't see the new entry! I like the assured, almost arrogant stance. It reminds me of T. S. Eliot's phrase "April is the cruelest month." The willow-like leaves, their spirals around her (echoed on her jacket design) and their shad...

Re: How are crew members fairing?

Dear Angel,

how nice to hear from you! The forum has been mostly quiet because much of the conversation seems to have migrated to the blog. I'm editing an SF anthology -- more details as it progresses.

Re: Gems and Elementals

She looks magnificent! I particularly love the spiky hair, her expression, her stance. Also, you rendered the opalescence beautifully. The details are equally marvelous: the weapon, the bandage on her hand, the lines of her clothing reflecting the wheeling/shooting stars above, the half-crystalline/...

Re: Castle

ABC shows the two most recent episodes of Castle on its web site, so I caught Knockdown tonight. Wowza! Though I still think the one with the fake alien abduction was the wittiest and most imaginative so far.

Re: Castle

Just to say that this week's Castle was made of everything awesome. It was an episode about a reseacher at SETI found dead by decompression, and it was full of X-File-ish references. // And I had a fangirlish *squee* as I realized he had just channeled Mal Reynolds. I LOVED the episode, for the sam...

Re: A couple of interesting articles...

Eloise, those are tremendous! I chose the one of Gandalf for several reasons: he doesn't wear any armor; he looks so small yet indomitable against his huge adversary; and given the angle, it could be a woman or a man facing the Balrog. In some ways, I identify with him because he's older... as I am ...

Re: A couple of interesting articles...

Terrific articles, Eloise! Thank you for noting them -- they're important at all times, but particularly pertinent to me right now because I'm girding my loins to reply to a despicable column in the Apex blog. I wrote about it on the blog yesterday: Standing at Thermopylae . I bet you will like the ...

Re: Tea house Google theme

Happy you like it! The older style already looked dated but a server move finally made the change necessary. I've noticed that the avatars look nicer in the new template and I like having the light frames interspersed with the starry dark.

Re: Tea house Google theme

And... due to a recent glitch to the Tea House Gmail theme, I discovered the long-missing Easter egg. If anyone is interested in seeing it, let me know!

Having missed most of the first season, I didn't realize Castle's editor was his ex-wife. It's odd that we don't see her interacting with her daughter -- or is she not Alexis' mother? I also thought that Castle's jealousy in previous episodes was annoying, like a kid who suddenly once again wants a ...

Did you see last night's Castle episode, Eloise? I have three comments: 1. If this follows genre expectations, Castle's editor was roped in for a face-saving gesture and the whole kissy-face scene was rehearsed. 2. In reversals of the usual settings, Castle is the one with a family whereas Beckett i...

Funny you should bring this up today, Eloise! I'm writing an article about Davies' book The Eerie Silence, which will touch upon his biological theories. There is no question that there may be lifeforms that we haven't seen or that we cannot easily recognize. However, some of the "second life&q...

From the topic of this thread and the tone of your post, Eloise, I knew who would be #1 on that list. They're right: Fillion should have been a leading man if not a star years ago. He's great at both action and comedy -- and, judging from how he interacts with his daughter on Castle , he would be go...
