There's a new page in the Reckless galleries (found in the Art of Spider Silk Gallery as a sub-page, for the moment), comprised of original fantasy art that I've recently done. The art can also be found on the following pages:

http://www.emergingartists.com/view_pho ... otogid=168

http://www.theuntappedsource.com/IArtiste

http://www.redbubble.com/people/iartiste/art

Edit: The art formerly on the Artist Portfolio page has been moved to RedBubble, for better ease of navigation:

Edit 2: As it also offers better ease of navigation, all art previously on Artist Rising is now on my page at the Untapped Source.
Also, the Fantasy art sub-gallery has a new image.

Dear Heather,

Tattoo Blooming is wonderful -- and to me it looks distinctly Koredhani -- or Minoan, which is Koredhan's past! Her slightly hieratic stance (she could be holding a sacred serpent), her barely contained hair, the mirroring of the tattoo onto the live flower, the combination of austerity with voluptuousness in her figure. I love the juxtaposition between the largely black-and-white drawing to the strategically placed touches of full color: especially her eyes and the shadow of the flower.

If you plan to add more images, I think it will be great to create a new album, since this is original free-standing work. Or you can leave the single new image in Spider Silk, as a lovely final signature... perhaps an incarnation of the artist herself!

Postscript:

I just realized that you created a whole sub-album. My mistake for being absent-minded!

All the images are marvelous. The motifs and patterns (both thematic and stylistic) give them visual richness and mythic depth. They resemble Major Arcana cards of a Tarot deck: the fusion of animate and inanimate, nature and human figure, the subtle mirror effects (the fuchsia tattoo in the Carribean Breeze, the skin tones of each figure reflecting the major inanimate object). The colors are also wonderful, the palette exactly right for the mood and context of each piece.

Lovely work... and ripe with narrative possibilities.

Dear Athena,

Thank you for your wonderful comments! Also, I'm definitely planning to move the sub-album to the front page of the galleries. :)

Dear Heather -- I'm in the throes of packing for my lab move, and won't have time to comment adequately for a couple of weeks. But they are lovely... Edwardian and Gothic at the same time! For some reason, the two male figures remind me of Brontë's Mr. Rochester, via Beardsley.

More later, when I've unpacked and exhaled!

I always love the integration of style and content in your work -- in this case, the reflection of the aurora's shape and colors by the figure's lines, coloring and garment.

I noticed that another lovely image snuck into Heather's originals gallery! This one is particularly interesting when juxtaposed with its Amethyst counterpart: the two figures seem to belong to the same culture, one that loves art nouveau sinuous curves. But whereas Borealis is young and appears free, carefree and unfettered, EmerAlde is melancholy but also confined by the enclosing buildings (which appear oppressive despite their loveliness) and the calibrated use of dark brown.

I love his tattoos and the sense of his isolation from others (the tiny figures in the background), as well as the two moons in the sky. On a personal note, this could be young Serkadren in my saga.

So, it looks like a gem series is starting? I very much look forward to the rest!

My thanks for your lovely feedback! In particular, I'm glad you like the atmospheres in the individual images and the contrasts between them. Also, I can certainly see EmerAlde as a young Serkadren, before he became wholly corrupt.

More from the gem series are definitely in the works. :)
